Words of the Path (Complete title: Words of the Path: A Guide to Tenrikyo Terms and Expressions) is a Tenrikyo Overseas Department publication that is an English translation of Yoshikazu Fukaya’s Omichi no kotoba 『お道のことば』.

Omichi no kotoba originally ran as a series of articles in the Tenri jiho newspaper beginning in spring 1972.[1] These articles were later compiled and published into a single volume by Tenrikyo Doyusha in 1977.

English translation of Rev. Fukaya’s articles began as early as May 1977[2] Work stopped and did not resume until 1995.[3] An English translation of the entire work was published in 2009.

Text on the back

Back of Words of the Path
"It is not an easy task to explain Tenrikyo-specific terms and expressions, which we followers commonly use, in a way that members of the general public can readily understand. This task can prove to be daunting unless we have mastered them to a considerable degree. That Rev. Fukaya accomplishes this task by naturally and unpretentiously engaging the reader speaks much of his abilities, not to mention his faith and the painstaking efforts he has put into this work.
"This book does not merely explain Tenrikyo terms and expressions, for each entry consistently exudes with the authors faith and gives the reader the impression of listening to a lecture on the teachings. In fact, I learned something from it on more than one or two occasions. I have good confidence that this work will give readers much to think about in addition to providing an excellent overview of the Tenrikyo teachings."
--Hidenobu Yamazawa, commenting on the Japanese original of this book on January 26, 1977, when he was the president of Tenri Seminary

Yoshikazu Fukaya was born in 1927. He went to Tenri Technical College of Languages (now Tenri University) and completed Tenri Graduate Seminary. He was appointed as Honbu-in in 1972. He has served as the vice-chairman of Tenrikyo Young Men's Association Headquarters, the head minister of Kawaramachi Grand Church, the superintendent of Kyoto Diocese, the president of Tenrikyo Doyusha, and Director-in-Chief of Tenrikyo Administrative Affairs. He passed away for rebirth in 2001 at the age of 74.
