We can infer that a health disorder can be a means of helping with the cleansing. One of the things this verse implies is that we seem unable to get around to cleansing unless we are confronted with a challenging situation such as illness. In fact, there may be many people who cannot carry out the cleansing even after finding themselves struggling with a health condition. A health disorder may be seen as a way of alerting us to the fact that we need to cleanse the heart so that understanding can occur through the work of distinguishing. Part XII will say these things more clearly.
