From Michi no dai: Foundation of the Path 35:56

The verse asks what we think God’s workings–i.e., returns given according to the state of mind–are like. God will discern our state of mind and immediately give returns commensurate with it, even if we are “a thousand leagues away,” which is to say, regardless of how far away we are.
