Commentary by Yoshitaro Ueda (2008)
From Michi no dai: Foundation of the Path 34:53
God the Parent is trying “day after day” to hasten what has been talked about. That is to say, God is trying to hasten the children’s spiritual growth and awakening. Regarding the word “nayami” in the original–which is rendered here as “agony”–what does it refer to? Ofudesaki chushaku interprets it as referring to God’s agony. It may sound odd to speak of God’s agony; however, given that the Ofudesaki contains references to God’s regret and anger, I think that it is acceptable to consider God as experiencing agony from trying desperately to hasten humans’ spiritual growth. The word “salvation” refers to saving the entire world or bringing universal salvation. The verse asks us to make preparations for that.
The meaning of the verse then is that God is agonizing over trying to hasten our spiritual growth so that we can teach and instruct others and work to reconstruct the world into a world that accords with the divine intention. God is asking us to quickly make preparations for the salvation of others and for world salvation.
