Ofudesaki chushaku

4:50 What I am about to speak on is solely about the fertilizer. It is not about anything else. Note: Among the Services that Oyasama taught as the Services of manifold forms of salvation to be conducted at Jiba was the Service of Fertilizer. This was conducted by offering a mixture of three to (斗 135 kg) each of bran, ashes, and soil, which equaled to 100 da (駄 13,500 kg) at the Kanrodai. Those who required fertilizer would then receive the amount they needed and place the mixture to cultivate their fields. Also, there was once a grant called the Sazuke of Fertilizer. A person who received the truth of this grant would take three go (合) [450 g] each of bran, ashes, and soil, and offer the mixture to Oyagami. When this grant was administered and the mixture was placed in a field, Oyasama taught that it would be equal to the efficacy of one da (135 kg) of night soil.

『おふでさき註釈』、p. 60 五〇、今話しようとうるのは外の事ではない。肥一条の話である。 註　おぢばで行われるよろづたすけのおつとめの一つに、肥のつとめがある。肥のつとめとは、一座分、ぬか三斗、灰三斗、土三斗を合わせてこれを百駄の肥とし、かんろだいに供えて祈願をする。これを頂いた人は、一駄分二駄分その必要に応じ下附を受けて所有の耕地に施すのである。又、肥のさづけ、というのは、ぬか三合、灰三合、土三合を神前に供え、肥のさづけを頂いた人がこのさづけを取り次いで、田畑に置くと、肥一駄に相当する効験があるとお教え下された。

The verse is saying: “What do you think ‘this talk’ is all about? It is about fertilizer.” The phrase “solely about the matter of the fertilizer” indicates that God is talking about the Service of Fertilizer and the Sazuke of Fertilizer. The word “solely” here is a translation of the Japanese word “ichijo,” which implies the meaning of “the matter of.” In the Ofudesaki, the matter of fertilizer means the Service of Fertilizer and the Sazuke of Fertilizer.
