4:25 Illness is something that ought not to exist in this world. You must gain the insight that an anxiety of the body is My guidance to you, whom I wish to call on to join in My mission. |

Commentary by Yoshitaro Ueda (2008)
From Michi no dai: Foundation of the Path 34:43–4
The Ofudesaki says in many places that there is no such thing as “illness.” A while ago, we had a verse that said, “...disorders will befall you, and you will come again” (verse 13). Verse 25–which reiterates that there is nothing that should be called illness–says that if we experience a bodily affliction, it is an indication that God is drawing us in order to have us perform some work for God. The Scripture contains a number of verses that refer to bodily disorders.
There is a verse that says that “dust in the mind causes disorders of the body,” so there are obviously times when uses of the mind that are referred to as “dust” lead to bodily disorders. However, verse 25 indicates that there are also times when God’s call for our service comes in the form of a bodily affliction. So our bodily afflictions do not necessarily indicate God’s reproof; rather, they could be indications of God’s call to us. In the verses we are looking at now, the bodily afflictions are intended to help God draw people so that they may serve as the performers of the Service.
