1:28 The verse says that we must not think of this ailment as being ordinary or as being something that happens commonly at all. About this matter, God will “admonish” us thoroughly with verses, i.e., with the tip of the writing brush.
This universe is permeated with reason. This is one way to express Tenrikyo’s worldview. That, I think, is reflected in the term “Tenri,” which translates as “the reason of heaven.” God teaches us the reason of heaven or the way of heaven with the tip of the writing brush. God is here using Shuji’s leg ailment as a concrete topic through which to help us understand the reason of heaven.
The Ofudesaki contains many verses that appear to deal with actual people close to Oyasama or make references to historical events that were happening in those days. This does not mean that those verses are only intended for the people with whom they seem explicitly concerned. Rather, it is important to accept the verses as using those people and events as topics to teach all humans including those of us who are now following the footsteps of our early predecessors.
