Commentary
Ofudesaki chushaku
Yoshitaro Ueda (2009)
From Michi no dai: Foundation of the Path 35:76
The children were conceived over “three days and three nights,” and Izanami-no-Mikoto stayed at Jiba of Origin for “three years and three months.” The first humans were all half an inch (five bu) tall at birth and grew taller gradually. The Doctrine of Tenrikyo says that when they reached a height of three inches (3 sun) in ninety-nine years, they all passed away for rebirth and their father, Izanagi-no-Mikoto, withdrew from physical life; however, this part does not appear in the Ofudesaki. I think that it would be helpful to supplement the Ofudesaki verses with this sort of information as we read the Scripture.
